Jennifer Uhrhane

In my photographs of different cities and countries, I try to create a sense of place through architectural and other distinctive regional details – indoors and outdoors. The pictures I make document surfaces long-exposed to time and use, and place importance on ordinary things, daily overlooked, or ignored. I search for random events of light and shadow, which I catch by chance rather than by preconceived planning. At the same time, many of these photographs transform small fragments of structures into abstractions and become formal examinations of color, texture, light, shadow, shape, and space.

I recently completed an MA in art history at Boston University. I also hold a Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies and Administration from Tufts University, and a BFA in Photography from Rhode Island School of Design. My work has been exhibited at Argentum Gallery (Wakefield, RI), Atrium Gallery (Providence, RI), Essex Art Center (Lawrence, MA), Griffin Museum of Photography (Winchester, MA), JP Centre/South Main Streets Association First Thursday Exhibitions (Jamaica Plain, MA), Krause Gallery (Providence, RI), Newport Art Museum (Newport, RI), Providence Art Club (Providence, RI), and risd|works (Providence, RI).
