Janelle McCuen

I started shooting photographs in 1996, during my third year of film school. I was deep into directing my own movie and shooting several others that I knew would take years before they were complete. I was working my ass off and had nothing to show for it.

I was desperate to create something tangible, that I could see, hold in my hand and share with others.  A photographer friend gave me his old Nikon F3, a couple of beautiful lenses and pushed me out the door to go get my fix. I was hooked after my first shoot.

Still photography challenges me to capture the scene and tell a story in a single frame. Because of its quick turnaround time, it has been an amazing compliment to the filmmaker in me.
